The HCCG College Students report is a publication that tracks and analyzes trends the US College Students demographic. This report primarily utilizes data collected from college students who belong to a larger group known as “Gen-Z” (people born between 1997 and 2012) and is the demographic that is about to enter the workforce. Indeed, college students today are uniquely different from those from previous generations because they grew up with the internet, social media, and smartphones. As a result, companies are racing to understand how best to hire these college students, marketers are trying to figure out how to target this demographic, and, because college students today are also the most socially conscious demographic, nonprofits are seeking to appeal to them as well. This report discusses three topics: College Students and Career, College Students and Entertainment, and College Students and Nonprofits.

ESG Investing Report

As the private sector begins to emphasize corporate social responsibility, new trends and patterns in the ESG space have evolved along with it. About one-third of millennials often or exclusively use investments that take ESG factors into account, and the way companies prioritize their environmental, social, and governance strategies will influence the way they are valued going forward. The COVID-19 pandemic plunged the global economy into the deepest recession since the end of World War II: In 2020, the economy contracted by 3.5%, a 7% loss compared to the projected growth for that year. Taking a deep dive into a few key verticals (healthcare, consumer retail, technology, and aerospace & defense) to examine the current and future effects of this pandemic on global supply chains has shown that digitization, diversification, and a wide variety of industry-specific restructurings will characterize this next chapter of the global economy as it looks to rebound from the pandemic.

Associate Director of Engagement

Will is from Arlington, Virginia, lives in Kirkland House, and studies Statistics with a secondary in Computer Science. With divergent interests in consulting, finance, music, politics, and sports analytics, Will has spent time interning on Capitol Hill and working on several data-based sports modeling projects. Notably, Will has also spent his recent summers traveling the world with the Harvard Krokodiloes, Harvard’s oldest a cappella group. In his free time, Will enjoys watching TV and movies, playing golf, and going on hikes.

Abhishek Malani

Associate Director of Finance and Administration

Abhishek is from Glastonbury, Connecticut, and proudly lives in Pforzheimer House as an Economics Major with a secondary in Computer Science. Previously, he has conducted research on the impacts of diversity in early education learning, helped teach business analytics courses, and most recently, conducted equity research for a New York based fund. At Harvard, he is also the Portfolio Manager for Black Diamond Capital and involved in the Harvard South Asian Association. Abhishek loves playing poker, binge watching Netflix, and making the best omelettes in dining hall history.

Danielle Nam

Associate Director of Case Development

A Silicon Valley native, Danielle lives in Cabot House and is pursuing a bachelor’s in Economics with a secondary in Statistics at Harvard, along with a master’s in Harp Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music. Danielle is currently zooming from Seoul, South Korea, where she’s working at a VC fund and as an international trade intern. She is passionate about public service and has been involved with the Department of Veterans Affairs in a voluntary capacity for several years now. Danielle loves farmers’ markets, trying new foods, and early and classical music.

Fredericka Lucas

Associate Director of External Initiatives

Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Fredericka lives in Leverett House and studies Neurobiology and Economics. As a member of HCCG, she has worked with leading medical device companies on market evaluation, primary research, and data analysis cases. At Harvard, she is a member of the varsity track and field team and is involved in biomedical research. This summer, she will be joining Bain and Company as an Associate Consultant Intern. In her free time, Fredericka enjoys reading, making Spotify playlists, and cooking breakfast foods.

Joshua Doolan

Associate Director of Technical Initiatives

Joshua hails from New York City, lives in Pforzheimer House, and studies Applied Mathematics with a focus in Data Science. He has a keen interest in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science. At Harvard, Joshua has enjoyed being a Peer Advising Fellow, serving as a mentor to first-year students. In his free time, you’ll probably catch Joshua taking a bite out of Vegemite toast while listening to some “golden age” (2011-2014) pop music.

Sahar Mohammadzadeh

Associate Director of Member Affairs

Sahar is a Kentuckian living in Mather House as a Government Major on a Tech Science Track with a secondary in Economics. Passionate about business and media, she has worked with leading television production networks and conducts grant investment research as a Youth Explorer for National Geographic. Sahar has also previously worked with software VC funds and will be joining Insight Partners this summer in NY. On campus, Sahar served on the Executive Team of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics as Director of Communications. When she is not baking, Sahar can be found skiing, listening to podcasts, or writing letters to authors of books she enjoys.
